Languages

OneChat detects the language each customer writes in and replies natively — Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Spanish, French, German and more than 50 others. There is nothing to configure.

How it works

  • Detection happens per message, so a customer who switches from English to Japanese mid-conversation gets Japanese replies from that point on.
  • Your instructions can be written in one language (say, English or Japanese) — the agent still answers customers in their language while following your policies.
  • Voice notes are transcribed in the language they were spoken and answered in that language.

Controlling language behavior

You can override the automatic behavior in your instructions if your business needs it:

  • Pin a language: "Always reply in Japanese, regardless of the customer's language."
  • Limit languages: "Reply in Japanese or English only; for other languages, answer in English and mention that support is available in Japanese and English."
  • Fixed phrases: "Always close with 「よろしくお願いいたします。」 when replying in Japanese."

Handoffs across languages

When a conversation is escalated to Slack, your team sees the original messages. Your team replies in whatever language they're comfortable with — many teams reply in their own language and let customers translate, or use the conversation context to respond directly.
